West Ham will attempt to bounce back from midweek’s 4-nil thrashing at the hands of Everton when they face league leaders Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The gulf in quality, points and position on the EPL log between both teams make Pep Guardiola’s free-scoring charges clear favorites, and even a draw will be seen as a disappointing result and upset.
However, despite winning 13 and drawing the other 1 of all league fixtures played thus far, Hammers boss David Moyes believes City can’t be considered a great team yet. Not until they win the title.
The Scot even claims there are weaknesses the Etihad outfit have that can be exploited, and that they aren’t all that invincible as results have otherwise shown.
In Moyes’ words ahead of the trip to Manchester: “I don’t think they’re completely unflappable with what they’ve got.
“I think there are ways to play against them, I think they’ve got weaknesses.
“They play very high up the pitch, which can leave space in behind them.
“But I think the coach (Guardiola) admits to his frailties and knows what the weaknesses are but tries to make it so difficult for the opposition to get to their weaknesses.”
From his comments, West Ham will most likely set up to sit deep, soak up the pressure and counter attack.
The duo of Michail Antonio and André Ayew could use their pace to hurt City, but given the condition of the leaky Hammers defence, Moyes’ men will have to outscore the title favorites to have a chance.
