Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has appeared to take a sly dig at Liverpool.
After leading his club to a comfortable 4 -2 win against Premier League high –flyers Watford on Tuesday, Mourinho could not help but take a swipe at the Merseyside club.
United were cruising with a 3 -0 lead against the Hornets after a brace from veteran Ashley Young and a striker from Anthony Martial.
Watford with their fighting spirit did however fight back with two goals, however Jesse Lingard put the result beyond doubt with a late strike.
Mourinho was happy after the game that his side managed to win and did not let their lead slip just as Liverpool did recently when they led Sevilla 3 -0 at half –time but ended up drawing the game 3 -3.
“It was an easy match to win comfortably, in the last minutes we should be smoking a cigar, but in the end it is three points,” said Mourinho. “We had chances for four, five and six (goals).
“We had that in the first half. We finished the first half with a chance from an open goal. We had more in the second half, again and again. And we didn’t score.
“Watford gave us a couple of minutes where they felt anything could happen. This is football. Last week, Borussia Dortmund-Schalke, 4-0, 4-4. A couple of weeks ago, Liverpool (at Sevilla), 3-0, 3-3. That’s football.”
