John Hartson has suggested that Celtic need to sign a defender if they wish to compete in Europe.
Despite the Bhoys being in strong form in Scotland, they have been underwhelming in Europe during recent years and were comprehensively outplayed by French giants PSG in the Champions League last week.
Despite taking an early lead through Moussa Dembele in Paris, Celtic eventually went down 7-1 against Unai Emery’s side.
It was one of the Hoops worst performances in Europe during recent years and proves that despite the team dominating in Scotland, they cannot compete with the World’s most elite sides.
Hartson believes that Brendan Rodgers will need to sign a defender if he wishes to for his side to be competitive in Europe.
Hartson said on BT Sport 3 on Wednesday evening (9:52pm, November 22, 2017) during the post-match coverage of PSG against Celtic, “For Brendan to improve Celtic in Europe, he will need a better quality of defender. They have to back him. The board have to back him to do that.”
