West Ham manager Moyes hails controversial player

West Ham boss David Moyes was full of praise for striker Marko Arnautovic after his side managed to earn themselves a 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Friday.

The two players from the Hammers side who caused the most trouble to the Leicester defence on the day were arguably Austrian international Arnautovic and Arthur Masuaku.

The pair managed to collectively deliver 15 out of the 31 Hammers crosses on the evening and seemed to push the Foxes defence onto the back foot each time they launched an attack.

Following the game, Moyes praised by the attacker by saying, “Marko played really well for us on Sunday, without really getting a lot of praise for it.

“Everybody said he hasn’t run so I said ‘If you don’t run, we won’t play you’, so he’s running and I think, if you’re a full-back, you don’t really want to play against Arnautovic because he’s got power and pace.

“He probably prefers to play on the left-hand side but we’ve got a few people who want to do that, so at the moment we are playing him on the opposite side.

“We want him to be a big player. We spent a lot of money on him and we want him to score goals and make goals and tonight he helped us.”

Arnautovic has had a frustrating start to life at the East London club since arriving from Stoke during the summer transfer window but the performance against Leicester is certainly encouraging.
