West Ham face a tough run of Premier League fixtures heading into the New Year, with clashes against Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham on the way.
Given their poor form since the first ball was kicked this term, it doesn’t appear they have any chance against the title challengers.
Former Hammers midfielder Matthew Etherington has expressed his fears over the club’s chances of dropping to the Championship, as he believes remaining in the drop zone after Christmas could seal their fate.
The former winger revealed on talkSPORT: “I’ve been really worried by the recent performances to be honest with you and I think there’s every chance they could go down, I really do.
“I just don’t see a lot in that team right now.
“It is very tight down at the bottom. There are a lot of teams that could easily get dragged into a relegation battle.
“From a West Ham point of view, the next few games are key. If they don’t get anything from them, I can’t see them getting anything from the games against Chelsea, City and Arsenal .
“Then you’re going into the Christmas period in the bottom three, maybe rooted in the bottom three, and then it is a real uphill task.”
The Hammers held Leicester City to a 1-all draw on Friday night having come from behind to equalize on the stroke of halftime.
Nevertheless, the point wasn’t enough move them away from 18th on the log, and a win for Swansea will even see them further drop down to 19th at the end of matchday 13.
