Chelsea legend explains why Liverpool could be psychologically damaged

Chelsea hero Pat Nevin believes that Liverpool could be psychologically hit following their 3-3 draw against Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Reds went into half-time during the game with a commanding 3-0 lead after a brace from Roberto Firmino and a further strike from Sadio Mane.

Liverpool however had a nightmarish second half. Their defensive fragilities began to be exposed once again and the game ended up in a 3-3 draw.

Nevin thinks that the nightmare which the Reds experienced during the second half could have a negative psychological impact on them heading into their Premier League game against Chelsea this weekend.

“That’s going to be a hard one to take,” he said on Radio 5 Live. “On top of that they were so close (to qualifying) that’s going to have a psychological effect as well.

“If you’re at Anfield and you’re playing against Spartak and you’re 1-0 up with five minutes to go or you’re drawing 0-0, you’ll still be panicking because you know what’s happened in this group. So they have to make sure that psychological blip doesn’t happen.”
