According to Sport Arena (via Turkish-Football), Senol Tosun, the father of Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, who also doubles as his agent, recently went to England in order to discuss with Newcastle.
The Magpies have maintained interest in the services of the Turkey international since the summer transfer window, and talks are underway between both sides ahead of the January transfer window.
Newcastle have scouted Tosun all campaign, and did send representatives to the Champions League game between Besiktas and Porto on Tuesday night.
Rafa Benitez’s side have struggled in front of goal since returning to the Premier League this term, managing just 11 goals in 12 outings. In Tosun, Newcastle can land a quality and proven goalscorer.
The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions for Besiktas this term, maintaining his explosive form of last term which saw him bag 24 goals in 47 games.
For the right price, Besiktas could allow Tosun leave for Tyneside in January, so Newcastle have a chance to land their man if they can break the bank.
