West Ham’s plans shatter as director confirms permanent deal for midfielder

West Ham United’s chances of landing Benfica attacking midfielder Bryan Cristante have been dealt a huge blow, as Atalanta have confirmed they plan to make his loan deal permanent.

The AC Milan academy graduate is currently in the final year of a 2-year loan at the Italian side, and having impressed since arriving, they are looking to activate his £3.55million purchase option.

Atalanta’s general director Umberto Marino told Premium Sport: “We will sign him, even if it is premature to talk about the [transfer] market.”

Cristante attracted suitors with his performances in the Serie A last term, with Italian trio Inter, Lazio and Juventus and the Hammers keen.

West Ham could do with such goalscoring midfielder considering their struggles this term.

The 22-year-old has 4 Serie A goals to his name this term, and has earned a call up to the Italian national team, making his debut in a 1-1 draw against Macedonia in October.

The Hammers need to strengthen their squad in January following a poor start to the campaign, with the midfield a department in need of quality reinforcements.

However, Cristante can no longer be part of their transfer plans going forward as Atalanta are more than willing to hold on to a rare gem.
