Newcastle fell to a 3rd consecutive loss on Saturday as Manchester United handed them a 4-1 drubbing.
The Magpies have now lost 6 Premier League games this term, and are currently 11th on the log.
Having missed out on the majority of his targets during the summer transfer window, manager Rafa Benitez will hope things get better come winter.
The Spaniard wants to bolster his squad ahead of the concluding half of the campaign, but the club’s takeover plans have January transfer plans shrouded in a cloud.
If current owner Mike Ashley is able to sell Newcastle on time, Benitez will definitely be given funds by the new owners to buy players.
However, it’s highly unlikely to see funds get released if Ashley is still around when the next transfer window opens.
Benitez seems to be preparing for the worst-case scenario, telling reporters after the Old Trafford defeat: “I don’t know what will happen (in January).
“I’ll keep working until January as hard as I can to improve my players, and if we can do something, we will.
“If not, I’ll try to improve the players that are available to me.”
The Magpies squad can really do with more quality additions, as a top half of table finish can be made possible if signings are acquired in January.
In the eventuality of no or very few recruitments, Newcastle will likely settle for the spots above the relegation zone.
