Lucas Leiva has spoken out about why he left Liverpool to join Lazio during the summer.
“After ten years in Liverpool I was looking for a new challenge,” he told Di Marzio as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“The team, the league and the city had all an impact on my decision to come here. I still have many friends in Liverpool, including Steven Gerrard. He was an amazing footballer and he taught me a lot as captain.”
The Brazilian ended a lengthy stay at Anfield during the summer in order to try out a fresh challenge in Italy, the move was made seemingly as it was apparent that he had slipped down the pecking order at the club under Jurgen Klopp.
The 30 year old has been superb for Lazio so far and has established himself as a first team regular within the side, having made 13 appearances in all competitions so far.
He will be hoping to also push for a place in the Brazil team for the 2018 World Cup.
