Erstwhile Leeds manager Garry Monk return to Elland Road with Middlesbrough on Sunday few months after leaving the Whites following a season in charge.
The former Swansea manager led Leeds to a 7th place finish last season, only to leave after new owner Andrea Radrizzani took control of the club having acquired 50% of Massimo Cellino’s shares.
Thomas Christiansen was appointed to succeed Monk, and despite an impressive start to life to the club, recent results have been underwhelming to say the least.
The Middlesbrough game has been predicted to be a tough clash, with both managers hoping to prove a point or two.
Following a lot of speculations on why he left Leeds, Monk has finally revealed his real reasons.
The English tactician told The Times ahead of Sunday’s clash: “I felt we had done more than enough to prove ourselves, to earn something more secure and long term.
“If you look back at the start of the season, nobody expected anything from that team.
“I felt we had put in real strong foundations; now we could have a crack at promotion. But there was never any real intention to offer me a long-term contract.
“I also realised then that the club had already been working on signings and pre-season plans and I was kept completely out of the loop.
“The owner was making changes and taking decisions without consulting me at all.”
Boro are currently 3 points and 5 places ahead of 10th placed Leeds, and Radrizzani’s decision to let Monk leave will be justified or not at the end of the season.
