The final matchday of the Liga MX Apertura 2017 is upon us and there are some very important games throughout the weekend. Clearly, the most enticing matchup in Mexican soccer this weekend will be the Clasico Regio between Monterrey and Tigres UANL at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer, here are three reasons why this game is a must-watch.
1.Battle For The North
Just hearing the names of the two teams coming up in a Liga MX fixture already sparks interest as it is one of the biggest rivalries in the Southern hemisphere. Currently, there is an argument to be had that the Clasico Regio is much more interesting than the Clasico Tapatio or even the Clasico Nacional between Chivas and America. This is due to the state of both teams being consistently among the best and more star-studded teams in the Liga MX over the last few years.
There is a deep hatred between both fan bases and this has resulted in physical altercations in the past. This is turning into a monumental rivalry and the interest will only increase as both teams keep on finding success. The match should be very entertaining but should also have a very intense atmosphere to it as well at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.
2.Battle For First Place
As mentioned before, these two teams have been among the best over the last few years and this has stayed consistent in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. The Clasico Regio will not only decided the pride of the city of Monterrey but will also decide who will finish in first place.
Monterrey is currently topping the Liga MX with 34 points but Tigres UANL is not far behind in second with 32 points. A win or draw will give Los Rayados the title of Super Lideres while Tigres needs a win for that first-place finish. This will certainly add a lot to this game as the winner will not only be able to boast about the win in this game but also finishing above its biggest rival on the league table.
3.Battle For The Title?
This game will undoubtedly settle who will be the clear title favorite heading into the playoffs in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams have been dominant and clearly above and beyond the rest of the teams in the league but it is still unclear who is the favorite to take the Liga MX crown. Both teams have star-studded rosters with players like Aviles Hurtado and Dorlan Pabon on Monterrey and Andre-Pierre Gignac and Enner Valencia on Tigres.
Both have massive offensive potential and rigid defenses that can be a burden to break down for any Liga MX team. Of course, in the Liga MX more than in any other league, the favorite does not always get its way but this match should be a great parameter to see who is the better side heading into the playoffs. The winner of the Clasico Regio will also have a massive momentum boost heading into Liguilla which can prove to be a crucial factor.
