Ex-Leeds manager reveals the striker he feels can help replace Wood’s goals

Leeds United recruited heavily during the summer transfer window, bringing in 4 new forwards in order to plug the hole Chris Wood’s departure was bound to create.

The man charged with the task of leading the Whites’ line Pierre-Michel Lasogga has done pretty well, notching 5 goals in 10 appearances.

Nevertheless, the club have found themselves punching well below their weight of recent, and former manager Neil Redfearn believes it could be time for another player to help with the goalscoring burden upfront.

Leeds will have to effectively replace Wood’s goals in order to get back to winning ways, and their ex boss feels Kemar Roofe could prove to be the perfect answer.

The former Oxford United striker has largely settled for a role on the wings since arriving Elland Road last summer, but has led the attack on few occasions.

Redfearn is of the opinion that the 24-year-old deserves a run of games as a striker, recently saying on Radio Yorkshire: “I would like to see Kemar Roofe starting up front.

“I would like to see him get a run and if we don’t play him up front, how are we going to know if he’s good enough to go 10 to 15 games and get his seven to eight goals.

“He has proved at Oxford that he can and we have seen glimpses that he can for Leeds too. One thing the kid has done is that he has put a shift in wherever he has been played.

“He has not grumbled and he has done the roles and made sure that he has done it properly. I think probably he has earned the right to go up front.”

Roofe has scored 6 goals in 11 starts across all competitions this term, including an hattrick as a striker against Newport in August.

Could manager Thomas Christiansen trust him to lead the line following the club’s recent rut?
