Former West Ham and Liverpool defender Neil Ruddock believes that David Moyes resembled a broken man during his time in charge of Sunderland last season and believes that West Ham should have appointed Chris Hughton as their manager instead.
The Hammers appointed Moyes as their manager last Tuesday after sacking SlavenBilic the previous day following the clubs poor results of late.
They are currently languishing in 18th position on the Premier League standings after taking just 9 points from their opening 11 games of the season.
As Moyes was unable to save Sunderland from relegation last season, many skeptics will be concerned that he will not be able to save the Hammers from the drop this season.
Ruddock said: “As soon as I heard it was David Moyes, I just visualised him sitting on the bench at Sunderland – a broken man.
“I want him to do well at West Ham, I want him to prove the point he is a good manager, but in my mind’s eye I just see him sitting there at Sunderland.
“I would have gone for Chris Hughton. The club are alright paying £20m on a striker or midfield player who is not good enough, but they won’t spend £5m on a manager. To be fair, the West Ham fans are a bit ruthless and they can get on your back.”
