Former Sunderland manager becomes 4th favorite for Rangers job

As per Sky Bet, erstwhile Shanghai Shenhua boss Gus Poyet has had his odds to become Rangers manager significantly slashed, making him the 4th favorite to land the job.

It’s almost 3 weeks since the Light Blues fired Pedro Caixinha, with the club’s development squad head coach Graeme Murty in temporary charge.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes remains favourites for the post, but it’s believed a compensation fees rumoured to be around £800,000 could scupper Rangers’ chances of landing him.

Poyet has been credited with being interested in taking up the position, and given his managerial experience and achievement, he’s not a bad option.

The former Sunderland boss led Brighton & Hove Albion to the Football League One trophy in 2010–11, and was superb with Greek side AEK Athens.

The Uruguayan would represent a shrewd piece of business if snapped up by Rangers, and he could be appointed in the short-term – until the end of the season.

McInnes is widely viewed as the best man for the job, but giving the free Poyet a chance wouldn’t hurt.
