This Thursday, November 9, 2017 (7:00 PM Pacific) Monterrey will host Santos Laguna at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer for a match in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. The game is rescheduled from the 11th round of matches in the competition, where weather conditions impeded the encounter.
Monterrey is on top of the Liga MX with 33 points and looks to be one of the clear favorites to challenge for the title. Los Rayados are coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss to Lobos BUAP away from home, where they proved to once again be a beatable side. Antonio Mohamed’s team had previously fallen against one of the weakest teams in the Liga MX, Puebla in week 10 of the tournament.
Mohamed will be missing some key players for this game due to the international break like Stefan Medina, Cesar Montes, Carlos Sanchez and most notably Aviles Hurtado. Even with the absences Monterrey still has a very talented team with players like Dorlan Pabon and Rogelio Funes Mori and should be able to provide a very competitive effort.
Santos Laguna has been a solid team in the last few weeks but it seems like the team turned its season around far too late as it has been eliminated from playoff contention. Los Guerreros are undefeated in their last four games most recently coming off an exciting 2-2 draw against Pumas UNAM. Manager Robert Siboldi has done a great job since taking over the team and players like Julio Furch and Djaniny Tavares have really responded since his arrival.
Furch has been having a tremendous season now with nine goals in the Apertura while Tavares now has three goals in the last two games. Siboldi will not have many notable absences on his team like Mohamed but will be without Mexican defender Nestor Araujo. Both teams should provide a very entertaining match and while Santos has no chance at making the playoffs the three points will benefit Robert Siboldi towards perhaps keeping his job at the club for next season.
