This Saturday, November 4, 2017 (8:06 PM Pacific) Chivas of Guadalajara will host Atlas at the Estadio Jalisco for a game in the 16th round of matches in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams are living different moments from one another but the game means a lot more than the three points because of the intense rivalry between the two teams.
Chivas of Guadalajara has been the polar opposite of what the team was in its Clausura 2017 championship campaign, currently in 14th place with 15 points. The team has had a resurgence lately with two consecutive wins, a 3-2 win against Veracruz and a 3-1 win against Club Tijuana.
Matias Almeyda’s team has been playing much better in recent weeks but is still not poised to do much this season, already out of the Copa MX and with a very slim chance at making the playoffs in the Liga MX. Los Rojiblancos lost the Clasico Nacional against Club America earlier in the season and a win in the Clasico Tapatio would be a nice achievement in this disappointing tournament.
For Atlas this game has a bit more importance as the team is still looking to make the playoffs, currently in ninth place with 21 points. The team from Guadalajara is undefeated in its last two games recently coming off a 2-2 draw against Queretaro.Stiven Barreiro did pick up a red card in that game and will be unavailable for this match.
Los Rojinegros need to at least win one of its last two games for any chance at finishing in the top eight but this can be a very complicated game. Neither team will want to lose and should be motivated to come away with the win given the importance of the rivalry between the two teams.
