Everton skipper Williams admits the players are hurting

Everton defender Ashley Williams has admitted that his team-mates are hurting as a result of their recent performances and the due to the sacking of Ronald Koeman.

Speaking about his teams form this season, Williams said: “I think it hurts, definitely, he was someone we all liked and you feel responsible as a player.

“We’re disappointed for everyone, not just the players, it’s our profession as players, for the fans and for everyone in the club, it’s not nice when you’re not winning games and it affects everyone in the club.

“It’s always disappointing when a manager loses his job and you do take responsibility for that.”

The Toffees have been in poor form this season and are currently languishing in 18th position on the Premier League standings.

Everton were expected to challenge for a top four finish this season after a summer of heavy spending but based on the way that they are currently playing, they could be involved in a relegation dogfight unless improvement is not made anytime soon.

In addition to being poor in the Premier League, the Merseyside club have also been below par in the Europa League and travel to face Lyon on Thursday having taken just one point form three games thus far.
