“One of the best in Britain” – Manager sings praises of Tottenham target

Celtic gave a good account of themselves against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, narrowly losing 2-1 to the Germans giants in the return leg of their Group B Champions League encounter.

Tottenham target and Scotland international fullback Kieran Tierney was one of the best performers for the hosts, helping to prevent Munich’s veteran and star winger Arjen Robben from doing much damage.

The 20-year-old made 6 interceptions and 3 clearances and his performances earned praises from Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

The former Liverpool boss said of Tierney post-match: “I’ve worked with who I consider to be the two best full-backs in Britain – Danny Rose at Watford and Ryan Bertrand at Chelsea.

“And Kieran is right up there with those boys. He’s still very young, still got bits of improvement to make, but his quality, will, determination and focus is outstanding.

“He loves playing at Celtic and nights like this you can see why. He’s a real special talent who is focused on improving.

“He’s a really special player. For 20, to play at that composure – first and foremost, he’s a defender.”

Spurs have been keeping tabs on Tierney since he broke through at Parkhead last term, and did scout him over both legs against Munich.

With Rose currently linked with an imminent exit from north London, the Scottish whiz has been identified as his replacement, and given Tierney’s potential, he shouldn’t find it hard stepping into Rose’s shoes once the England international decides to call time on his Tottenham career.
