Established manager keen on Everton job

Former West Ham and England manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that he would consider the vacant Everton managerial position.

The Toffees have been without a manager since they parted ways with Ronald Koeman last Monday and David Unsworth has been in temporary charge of the club since.

They have continued to play poorly even after the departure of Koeman and are in 18th position in the standings with 8 points from 10 games.

When asked if he would consider the Everton job, Allardyce replied saying: “I’d have to consider that if that phonecall happens.

“There’s no point speculating at the moment. David Unsworth is in the chair, Joe [Royle] sat upstairs will have an opinion today [after the Leicester defeat] and from the Chelsea game. It’s really going to be tough for Everton to get out of that position.

“Not because the lads are not trying, but as a team collectively they can’t keep a clean sheet and can’t score a goal. Those are the two problems, if you resolve one, you’ll end up resolving the other and that will start with the clean sheet.”

“I’ve been in this position a number of times in the last three clubs I’ve had. I’d just put the team back to basics and show them what exactly what it takes to get out of this position.

“Sometimes it’s not entertaining, particularly away from home, but it’s about commitment, getting a result and how do you do it?”You look at the strengths and weaknesses of the side and promote the strengths, build the confidence, but stick to a basic game where you make fewer mistakes than the opposition, try and get the clean sheet and go from there.”

Allardyce could be a good choice for appointment since he has a good reputation for his ability to get the best out of players who are not playing with the highest levels of confidence and is also known for saving clubs from relegation.
