Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum has defended his team-mate Mohamed Salah who missed a penalty during the Reds 3-0 Premier League win against Huddersfield this weekend.
Just before half time when the game was still goalless, the Reds were handed a penalty after Roberto Firmino was fouled in the box by Tommy Smith. Salah then stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick and saw his effort saved by Jonas Lossl.
Following the game, Wijnaldum has defended his team-mate Salah for missing the penalty by saying: “Everyone can miss a penalty, it happens in football. It’s not sure that you’ll score if you get a penalty, so it can happen.
“At half-time the manager told us to keep playing football, make more runs behind their defence, but he said the most important thing was to stay calm and play football and not get frustrated that they make the spaces really small.
“That’s what we did, we were concentrated when we had the chances and we scored them.”
The miss did not affect Liverpool too much as they managed to seal a convincing win through goals from Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Wijnaldum himself who opened his account.
