Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth has admitted that his club are in a relegation battle this season following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Jamie Vardy and Demarai Gray gave the Foxes a win which was fully deserved considering that they dominated from start to finish.
Everton however should have been awarded a penalty when Christian Fuch’s fouled Aaron Lennon. The loss leaves the Merseyside club in 18th position on the League standings with just eight points from 10 games and in the relegation zone.
Following the game, Unsworth said: “We have to be honest, we are where we are. The answer to that is yes. But at the same time, (it’s) nothing a couple of back-to-back wins wouldn’t put right, to settle everyone down.
“The job isn’t bigger than I expected. Any manager who comes in wants to get quick results to get confidence rolling but you need time on the grass to get your opinions over.”
They were expected to challenge for a place in the top four after spending heavily on buying new players during the summer but it appears that they could be in a relegation dogfight this season.
