Newcastle reportedly in 2-way battle for ex-Liverpool midfielder ahead of January switch

As per The Sun, Newcastle have registered interest in Wolverhampton midfielder Conor Coady, and will attempt to land him in January.

However, they face a road block in manager Nuno Espirito Santo and West Brom, with the Portuguese not likely to allow one of his best players go, while the Baggies are also monitoring the defensive midfielder.

Coady, currently rated £7million, has been one of Wolves best performers this term and one of the key reasons they sit on top of the Championship log.

The 24-year-old Liverpool academy product has been deployed in centre-defence this term, and has been solid rock nonetheless.

Coady helped shut out Manchester City for 120 minutes during midweek’s League Cup clash, and Toons manager Rafa Benitez was finally convinced he could be a useful addition to the squad by January.

Newcastle are hoping to finish in the top half of the table and a player of Coady’s quality and versatility will be a major boost to the cause.

However, pricing him away and convincing Wolves to let go of him will be some herculean task.
