Cruz Azul is currently in eighth place with 21 points but has been on the decline lately, recently coming off a 3-0 loss to Lobos BUAP. La Maquina was also recently eliminated from the Copa MX competition by archrivals Club America. Manager Paco Jemez always seems to find the spotlight with his run-ins with the press and it is unclear in what direction the team is heading.
Jemez does count with a very talented squad but the defense has proven to be fragile and the offense has proven to be very inconsistent. Tigres UANL has won its last two games, recently coming off a dominant 3-0 win against Toluca at home. Enner Valencia has proven to be one of the most vital players for Ricardo Ferretti, now with eight goals after scoring a brace in that last game against Toluca.
Los Felinos are now in third place with 25 points and inclusively have a game in hand, which means that the team from Nuevo Leon will fight for a first-place finish. This is not the easiest game left on its calendar but it is a very winnable game against a Cruz Azul side that is struggling to find its identity.
