Based on current form and rate of growth, Rangers are light years away from reaching the level and heights of Celtic.
While the Parkhead outfit made light work of 2nd placed Aberdeen in a 3-nil victory on Wednesday night, the Gers were held to a 1-all draw against relegation-threatened Kilmarnock.
There are growing concerns that the Ibrox outfit won’t be able to reach the heights they attained back in the days – one that made their rivalry with Celtic attract English football fans.
Graeme Souness, former Rangers manager believes there is a quick solution to the problem, though, claiming huge investment and injecting a lot of cash into the transfers of quality players can do the trick.
The triple Scottish League title-winning boss told BBC Scotland of the club’s current woes: “It is a difficult time [for Rangers] and it’s been a very difficult time.
“I don’t think there’s a quick fix to it other than someone coming along and writing a big cheque.”
Celtic are on track to win a 6th title on the bounce, and are also favorites to retain the League Cup and Cup after strolling unchallenged to a domestic treble last season.
Souness believes Rangers fall from the top will continue to have a negative effect on Scottish football, further stressing: “As much as Celtic supporters and other supporters of clubs in Scotland have enjoyed the moment, it has damaged football in Scotland beyond belief.
“There was always an interest in Scottish football from football fans in England. That is no longer the case.
“So everyone who rejoiced at Rangers’ problems, I hope they’ve had a rethink and they now see the consequences of that.”
Having shown Pedro Caixinha the exit door following a run of poor results that has left Rangers in 4th position on the log after 10 games, fans will hope the next manager helps in guiding the club to the top.
