Tottenham boss confirms controversial man will start against West Ham

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Danny Rose will start for the club when they face West Ham in a Carabao Cup encounter on Wednesday.  The 27 year old Rose has been out of action since January due to a knee injury.

He made his comeback last week and was introduced as a substitute during his clubs 1-1 draw against Real Madrid last week. Spurs are currently on a good run of form and will likely use the match against West Ham to test fringe players and youth.

They will likely prioritize their weekend Premier League clash against Manchester United and will therefore likely rest key players. Pochettino speaking ahead of the game said: “Lamela is not on the list. After one year out, I can’t say whether he will be ready tomorrow, one week or a month.

“We have to assess him every day, see how he is feeling and then decide when he is ready. But we have to be careful. After a long period out, the psychological aspect is so important. It’s difficult when they only train but don’t play.”It’s the same process with Danny Rose. We have to be careful with him.

“We are resting players that need the rest as we want to take a risk. We are resting players as they need to rest.”Those that we don’t think are a risk are available. We want to be fresh and compete tomorrow as we want to get to the next round of the competition.

“We will rotate and give opportunity for some players to play and show that everyone can help. It’s so important as we have a difficult schedule and there is the international break. They are a not a machine and sometimes need a rest and impossible to be 100 per cent in every game.

“We are playing Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday again and then same the following week. Players can’t rest.”Our responsibility is to find when there’s an important period to rest and avoid risk as we want to fight for different competitions.”
