Why Newcastle must sign this £8million-rated shotstopper ahead of £15million-rated target

Newcastle are scouring Europe for reinforcements over the winter transfer window, and according to The Sun, South American goalkeeping duo, Geronimo Rulli and Fernando Muslera are on the list of manager Rafa Benitez after his scouts gave glowing reports of the two.

Rulli, 25, is Real Sociedad’s shotstopper. The Argentine has been impressive in the La Liga and is rated £15million.

Uruguay international Muslera, 31, has been Galatasaray first-choice since 2011 and is worth £8million.

While they have both been in top form for their respective sides, Muslera should be Newcastle’s January target, and not because he’s the cheaper option.

At 94 caps for country, the veteran shotstopper boasts of enough playing experience at the top level, and wouldn’t find it difficult hitting the ground running in the EPL.

In 9 Super Lig appearances this term, Muslera has kept 4 clean sheets.

Rulli on the hand has managed just 2 in the same number of league games, but 2 clean sheets in 3 Europa League appearances are impressive as they come.

While the Turkish league doesn’t boast of the most prolific finishers, that the Copa America-winning goalie has a lot of individual and club honours to his name are testament to his top quality, and he sure can give Rob Elliot a run for the money if a move for him works out.
