Former Rangers star reveals what the club needs to get back to the top

Rangers’ defeat at the hands of Motherwell in Sunday’s Scottish League Cup semifinals has set the alarm bells ringing louder than ever.

Pressure continues to mount on manager Pedro Caixinha, as his players have struggled for consistency having failed to win 3 games on the bounce.

The Gers have been below both Celtic and Aberdeen in terms of quality, while Motherwell are breathing heavily down on their neck on the SPFL table.

Everything appears to be going wrong for Rangers, and it has got many wondering what they need to get back to the top.

Not even the £8million spent on the signing of 11 new players over the summer has changed a thing.

However, former Rangers midfield star Charlie Adam believes more British players are needed to help arrest a downward spiral at Ibrox.

The 31-year-old Stoke City man who was following the Motherwell clash took to Twitter following the game to post: “More British players needed at rangers ASAP”

Caixinha brought in Portuguese, Mexican and Colombian players over the summer, but 6 British players made his starting lineup against Well, with 2 others coming on.

There are suggestions that Scottish clubs should have a quota of at least five home-grown players in their match squads, and from the look of things Caixinha wouldn’t have a hard time fulfilling that.

Adams feels there aren’t enough of them yet, and if that will help Rangers to success remains to be seen.

Celtic had 9 Brits against Hibernian, while Aberdeen had just 1 foreigner in their starting lineup last time out.
