Ex-Rangers star gives 4 compelling reasons why Pedro Caixinha should be sacked

In what has been a disappointing campaign, Rangers suffered another embarrassment on Sunday as they failed to qualify for the Scottish League Cup finals following a 2-0 loss to Motherwell.

One of the club’s best chances to win silverware this season has now gone down the drain, and the calls for manager Pedro Caixinha’s head have grown louder.

Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson is amongst the many that feel the time is up for the Portuguese at Ibrox.

The 39-year-old is still irked at how they blew their Europa League chances after losing to Luxembourg side Progrès Niederkorn in the playoffs.

Thompson told BBC Sportscene: “I honestly don’t see how he can continue in the job.

“Dumped out of Europe at the start of the season, that was an embarrassment.”

That Rangers aren’t even able to challenge 2nd placed Aberdeen is a cause of concern for the former striker, and he seems sure they don’t have a chance of finishing as the league’s runners-up come May.

According to him: “Are they any closer to Aberdeen ? Not really in my opinion.”

The dressing room leak, the disappointment from Sunday’s game – which earlier got many eagerly looking forward to an Old Firm Cup final, and the infamous 5-1 loss to Celtic are the other reasons Thompson feels have shown Caixinha is neither able to properly take charge of his dressing room, nor guide the team to constant impressive performances.

He concluded: “They’re now out the cup in the semi-final, throw in the Kenny Miller stuff, the Old Firm defeat.

“It doesn’t matter how you spin it, it’s just not good enough for Rangers Football Club.”

Rangers face teams below them on the league log in the next 5 games, and the results could go a long way in determining Caixinha’s future at Ibrox.
