Rangers legend highlights how the Gers can win silverware this term

Rangers last won a major trophy in 2011 – the Scottish League Cup, but they have another chance to win silverware this term, as they are just 180 minutes away from lifting one.

The Light Blues face Motherwell on Sunday in the semifinals of the League Cup, and a victory will set them up with a final against Celtic who defeated Hibernian 4-2 on Saturday.

Rangers legend Derek Johnstone believes the club must be in their elements to secure victory over Well, as the Steelmen’s attack is capable of handing them a shocker.

The one-time Ibrox favourite believes Louis Moult, who has 5 league games to his name and midfielder Chris Cadden are 2 men that Pedro Caixinha’s men must try and contain if they are to ensure victory.

Derek also claims that other teams always put in extra work whenever they face either of the Old Firm sides, and is expecting no less from Well.

Having gone almost a year without a run of 3 consecutive victories, a win on Sunday will help inspire the team to attain more consistency, as that has been the reason Celtic and Aberdeen have established themselves at the top of the league.

Derek believes a win against Motherwell can go a long way in making Rangers a much better side going forward this term.

He wrote in his Evening Times column: “The players will know themselves that getting back to a final is a major thing for the club.

“If Rangers win, it can be a springboard to go on and have a successful season, but a defeat could go the opposite way.

“The dark clouds would be gathering again and it would be back to square one.”
