This Saturday, October 21, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific) Queretaro will host Santos Laguna at the Estadio Corregidora for a game in the 14th round of matches in the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams are practically out of a chance of the playoffs but have distinct motives for getting the three points from the game.
Queretaro has been a very uninspiring team in this Liga MX Apertura 2017, currently in penultimate place with only 11 points. There is no chance of making the playoffs for Los Gallos Blancos but still are in need of the three points for their relegation battle. Jaime Lozano’s team is only ahead of Veracruz and Lobos BUAP on the relegation table and need to pick up points as this Apertura tournament winds down. Queretaro does not have the best squad its most impressive player so far being Brazilian striker Camilo Sanvezzo, who has six goals this tournament, four in Los Gallos’ last three games. This will not be an easy game for the home team but it is a winnable game that a team that is fighting for relegation should be able to get points out of.
Santos Laguna has had a very disappointing campaign, currently in 14th place with 12 points and a game in hand. Los Guerreros’ chances at making the playoffs look bleak especially since that game in hand is against league-leaders Monterrey. The team from Torreon is coming off arguably the best performance of the season, getting a 3-2 win against Necaxa at home. Djaininy Tavares and Jonathan Rodriguez both finally scored their first goals of the season in that game and will look to keep that momentum going.
Julio Furch arguably Santos’ best player this season also scored his sixth of the competition and will be the main player to watch in this game. While the three points do not mean a whole lot for Santos Laguna it does mean a lot to manager Robert Siboidi, who will look to keep the charge of the club heading into the next tournament. This is a very winnable game even away from home but it is unclear as to how this very inconsistent Santos’ side will perform in this game.
