Rivals manager to deal blow on Rangers transfer plans by convincing star player

Rangers tried their possible best to sign Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean during the summer transfer window, but the Dons knocked back their £300,000 bid.

The 25-year-old is in the last few months of his current deal, and would be free to talk to clubs in January.

The Gers plan to make another move by then, but Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is doing all he can to convince his star player into putting pen to paper for a contract extension.

Having lost the quartet of Jonny Hayes, Niall McGinn, Peter Pawlett and Ash Taylor last summer, McInnes isn’t willing to see any of his important players depart soon.

He has already secured an extension for Scott Wright, and McLean, alongside Scott McKenna and Anthony O’Connor is next on his list.

Aberdeen are joint-league leaders with Celtic, and are on form to challenge the Parkhead champions.

The former St Mirren man has been key to the Don’s brilliance, and it remains to be seen if they will be keen on letting him go midway through the season.

McLean is a proven top quality in the league that can help Rangers compete at the top of the table if signed, but landing him is set to prove even more difficult with McInnes ready to keep convincing him till the campaign ends.
