Rangers legend believes only one thing will see Celtic attract big names again

Celtic vs Hearts

Celtic play Bayern Munich on Wednesday night in Champions League Group B, and the Germans are clear favourites considering the gulf in quality between both teams.

Former Rangers fans favorites and ex-Germany international Jörg Albertz will be following the crucial game, and also shares the popular sentiment – a victory for the hosts.

The one-time midfielder believes Celtic aren’t able to compete continentally due to the low standard of Scottish football, attributing that to the quality of players in the league.

For Parkhead to attract the big names like it did during Albertz’s playing days in the mid-90’s, and subsequently be able to challenge the best teams in Europe, the German is of the opinion that a move to the English Premier League must take place.

The 3-time Scottish Premier League winner said ahead of the Munich-Celtic clash on Merkur.de: “Celtic has been thinking about moving to the Premier League for a long time, which would be a good thing, because their name and their legendary “Celtic Park” are actually attractive for good players.”

Both Rangers and Celtic continue to court the idea of moving to the English topflight, but saw EFL clubs vote against a proposal that wanted Premier League B teams and the Scottish duo to join a proposed League Three last September.
