Mikel Merino has said that Newcastle United can help him achieve his dream of receiving a call-up to the Spain national team.
Merino arrived at the Magpies initially on loan from Borussia Dortmund during the summer but his transfer was made permanent last week following some impressive early season performances.
The 21 year old has managed to establish himself as a key player for Rafa Benitez’s side, who are so far exceeding expectations this season. The performances of Merino could also prove vital in whether the Tyneside club manages to avoid relegation this season.
He is hoping to use his performances for the club to try and get called up to the Spain national team and said: “It is my dream to play for Spain. It will be hard and I will never think it will be easy.
“You only have to see the squad and the players we have. We have some of the best in the world. It is probably not ready to happen right now but I hope to be near in the future, and yes I can achieve that here, why not?”
