The Northeast trio of Newcastle United, Middlesbrough and Sunderland have agreed not to poach youngsters from each other’s academies, as reported by Times.
Despite their fierce rivalry, the trio Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Sunderland have reached a gentleman’s agreement to not poach youngsters from each other’s academy.
The Times confirmed this deal between the three clubs by publishing the following statement, “The north-east accord stems from the clubs’ realisation that due to geography they have a limited number of players to pick from and are better served concentrating on developing those already on their books,
“There is competition between them to sign non-registered players, but no players under 18 are induced to switch clubs.”
This agreement might be best for all the clubs involved in the long run as all the trio involved will now be able to focus on developing their own young players without having to fear the possibility of their rivals poaching their prospect.
The deal is a unique one and shows that all the three clubs are prepared to look beyond their rivalry for the betterment of the sport.
Middlesbrough and Newcastle have enjoyed considerable success in bringing up the players from their academy and will hope to continue on this path to build a competitive team for the future.
