Liverpool, despite being the better team all game, failed to break down visiting Manchester United on Saturday, and are now 9 points behind leaders Manchester City after 8 round of league games.
The Reds have an impressive record against the big teams under manager Jurgen Klopp, but in few of those games, like United’s and City’s, they have always struggled to bag victories.
Former Everton manager David Moyes believes such results are down to Liverpool’s lack of influential players who could help set the tone during such occasions.
Speaking on BBC 5 live Sport, the Scottish man claimed the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher always found ways to inspire Liverpool everytime they played against Everton and Manchester United while he was in charge.
The influential captain often delivered in such games, scoring his many worldies.
At the moment, Liverpool don’t have any particular player that singlehandedly hands them victory or inspire them to one.
The Reds visit Wembley next weekend to square off against Tottenham in what is expected to be a tough clash.
They will require a win to keep their top 4 finish hopes alive, as 4 draws and a loss have dealt a huge blow on their early season form.
While Liverpool continue to prove somewhat unbeatable for the big sides, they truly need charismatic players capable of dragging and firing them to needed victories.
‘@Carra23 and Gerrard used to set the tone for #LFC in big games’
David Moyes says they’re now missing that kind of player.
