Ronald Koeman bares all on why Everton have struggled thus far

Everton visit the Falmer Stadium on Sunday in search of their 3rd Premier League win of the season, and failure to leave with all 3 points could prove drastic for manager Ronald Koeman.

The Toffees are winless in their last 11 league away games, while the fact that the Dutch boss has overseen just 4 victories in 22 games on the road with the club makes weekend’s trip more concerning.

Ahead of the crucial game against the EPL new boys, Koeman has revealed the major reason his side are struggling.

According to him, the club’s Europa League schedule has been a major factor to their poor run of results.

Currently sitting in 16th place on the EPL log, Everton’s domestic struggles have also reflected on the continent, with just a point picked up in all 2 group games.

The former Southampton gaffer told reporters in his latest presser: “I think one reason we struggled is that we didn’t really have training sessions and that started in pre-season.

“We did not have a normal pre-season because we had to play really fast, really competitive to qualify for Europe.

“The schedule is so tough and you don’t have time to train or improve, and we didn’t have one new player, we had eight or nine new players and that takes time.

However, Koeman is happy with the latest schedule going into weekend’s clash, further claiming: “For that reason I’m happy that we play on Sunday and we can have a normal training session today.”
