Newcastle are looking to bolster their squad once the transfer window re-opens ahead of the conclusive half of the campaign.
According to Chronicle Live, the Magpies will return for the services of Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues and Benfica centre-back Lisandro Lopez after failing with summer bids for the duo.
Newcastle saw a final £6million bid for Rodrigues knocked back, but have kept in constant touch with the Turkish outfit and will make an improved bid for the Cape Verde international winger in January.
Despite conceding just 6 league goals thus far, manager Rafa Benitez wants further reinforcements at the back, and has eyes on the Lopez.
The Argentine defender has fallen down the pecking order at Benfica, and is open to an exit.
The 28-year-old 3-time league-winning centre-back nevertheless has a lot of experience, including an impressive loan stint at Getafe last term, which could come handy at the Saint James’ Park.
Securing his signature and Rodriguez’s come January will without a doubt add depth to the Newcastle ranks, but it remains to be seen if the management will release the funds needed to land them.
