England international goalie Joe Hart is delighted to have helped the Three Lions seal qualifications for next summer’s World Cup in style.
The West Ham shot stopper proved his worth in goal all over again to critics by putting in a man-of-the-match performance against Slovenia on Thursday.
A late Harry Kane strike secured an all-important ticket for England in the 1-nil win, while Hart proved vital at the back with saves upon saves.
The Manchester City loanee revealed to whufc.com that he’s looking beyond going to make up numbers at the quadrennial showpiece.
Hart actually wants his dream of winning a World Cup come true next year.
The 30-year-old told the club’s official website post-game: “I’m still a little boy dreaming and we have a World Cup to look forward to now.
“People have the same dreams as me and we feel we can really stick together and make something happen.
“Reaching Russia is really massive for us, it’s huge. It’s a big step after a not very successful end to the last campaign, but we’ve not let that get us down.
“We’ve got the results when we’ve needed to and we’ve qualified with a game to go.”
Despite heavy competition from the likes of Jack Butland, Tom Heaton, Jordan Pickford and Fraser Forster, Hart has managed to hold on to his starting berth thus far.
Nevertheless, he isn’t by any means guaranteed the spot at next summer’s competition.
Having now kept 4 clean sheets in his last 5 games for club and country, however, Hart will hope he can continue to put in such splendid performances from now till the end of the season in order to retain his place for England at the tournament.
