Celtic star issues rallying cry ahead of Scotland clash

Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has urged his fellow Scotland national team-mates to do all they can to defeat Slovenia on Sunday.

Scotland recorded a 1-0 win over Slovakia on Thursday night through an own goal from Martin Skrtel.  Should they defeat Slovenia in Ljubljana on Sunday, the Scots will finish in second place in Group F and win a place in the playoffs for a place in the World Cup next year.

Scotland have not qualified for the World Cup since 1998 however Gordon is confident that his teams patience can help them through a difficult test.

Whilst speaking to the Scotland Football Association’s Twitter Account, the 34 year old said, “We’ve scored a lot of late goals during this campaign and it shows we always go right to the end. We’ve got good fitness levels which ensure we can go right to the end to try and win the game.

“If we keep that spirit together we’ll have another good chance going into Sunday’s game. It will probably be the most important match I’ve played for Scotland since the Italy game back in 2007. It’s another chance to progress from a group and this time I hope we can take it.

“At my age there’s not going to be too many chances like this left. We’ve put ourselves in a great position now but we have to go finish the job.”
