Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has reiterated his desire to give youth a chance this season, and has claimed the door is open for the youngsters after 19-year-old defender Ross McCrorie broke through.
The academy graduate made his senior team bow against Partick Thistle last month, and was trusted with a starting berth in the 2-nil loss to Celtic.
Despite the pressure that comes with playing ones full debut in an Old Firm match, McCrorie impressed notwithstanding, and did put in another outstanding performance in the 4-1 victory over Hamilton.
Caixinha has identified 2 other youngsters who could make the grade in Jamie Barjonas and Aidan Wilson, and the duo, alongside several others, are set to be handed a chance during a closed door friendly with Scottish Championship side Morton on Sunday.
The Portuguese believes there is enough quality within the developmental squad that could come through the senior team.
He told Rangers TV: “I think Ross McCrorie opened the door again for those (academy) players and understood the conversation we had with them at the beginning of the season.
“We said, ‘we are having a look at you, keep working, we are going to call you when we have the need for players in your position because we know and we trust you and if there are circumstances when we need to place you in the first eleven or with the substitutes and give you the chance, we are going to give you it.’”
