West Ham handed massive boost in pursuit of European Championship-winning star

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (via talkSPORT), West Ham have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, as the Primeira Liga giants are in dire need of balancing their books.

The Hammers weren’t able to land the Euros 2016 winner during the summer, as Lisbon held out £40million for their man.

However, Carvalho could now be available for £10million lesser in January, as the urgent need to raise cash when the window re-opens could see the Portuguese side reluctantly agree to part with their star midfielder and prized possession.

Despite failing to get him, West Ham have continuously scouted the 25-year-old midfield enforcer, and will be more than glad to part with £30million for his services.

Carvalho once again displayed his quality against Barcelona on Wednesday night, holding his own against the Catalans in the Champions League encounter.

The Hammers badly need such steel in the heart of their midfield, and Carvalho represents one of the finest options around.

A January arrival to the London Stadium from the Portugal international would help change West Ham’s fortunes no doubt.
