West Ham and Tottenham set to be punished by the FA

West Ham and Tottenham have been charged by the English FA for failing to control their players during the game between the two sides last weekend which Spurs won 3-2.

Spurs looked to be comfortably winning the game after leading 3-1 at one stage. However the red-card to Serge Aurier prompted a resurgence from the Hammers who make the score 3-2 and pressed for an equalizer towards the end of the game which resulted in a melee.

Five players had to be cautioned during stoppage time and those were West Ham’s Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Andre Ayew while Eric Dier and Fernando Llorente of Spurs also picked up bookings.

The incident which led to the melee was a foul by Carroll which drew angry reactions from both teams leading to a scuffle.

The Hammers were pressing on for an equalizer after Cheikhou Kouyate’s goal gave them hope of securing at least a point but that never came.
