Leeds secured a berth in the EFL Cup round of 16 following victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night, and will now face Leicester City next as they attempt to progress to the quarterfinals.
The Whites were the best team of the 2 for larger portions of the game, as it took 2 comebacks from the hosts to force the game into extra time and penalties.
A 2nd-string Leeds starting XI proved their worth over the Premier League side, winning 5-3 in the end, and manager Thomas Christiansen is delighted at their performance.
The victory underlines huge quality in the squad depth of the Whites, leading the Spanish boss to claim none of his players are guaranteed of their starting shirts.
The likes of Gaetano Berardi, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Mateusz Klich and Ronaldo Vieira – all fringe players, impressed, and Christiansen told BBC Radio Leeds: “I was happy for the players and how they took to the game.
“It was an opportunity for them to show they are an important part of the squad and today they showed that there are no substitutes in my squad. I have many players who can start in the first eleven.”
With a lot of games still to come, every member of the Leeds squad will certainly get his fair chance to lay claim to a regular playing berth, and there appears to be enough competition to ensure everyone is kept on their toes.
