Football pundit Stan Collymore has revealed that he is surprised that Everton did not push to sign Fernando Llorente during the summer.
Following good performances for Swansea last season during which he scored 15 Premier League goals from 33 games, Llorente earned himself a move to Tottenham.
The Toffees have started the season in poor fashion after taking just four points from their opening five games. One of the major reasons cited for the poor form of the Merseyside club is the absence of a proven quality striker. Though they did buy Sandro Ramirez, he will take time to adapt to the Premier League.
The absence of a quality striker has been clearly visible within the Toffees since they lost RomeluLukaku to Manchester United during the summer.
Collymore has not revealed that he is surprised that the Toffees did not swoop for either David Villa or Llorente and said, “I was surprised they didn’t push hard for Fernando Llorente, who has a great pedigree, or David Villa, who is scoring goals for fun in New York and has just been brought back into the Spain squad.
“Could they have given Ibrahimovic’s agent a cheeky call and offered him a three-year deal? Any of them would have made a difference and had even one of them signed then Koeman might have been a little bit more inclined to agree with Mourinho’s assertion, or Mourinho less inclined to make it in the first place.”
