As per The Sun, Newcastle have eyes on PSG shotstopper Alphonse Areola, as the former French youth international is keen on leaving Parc des Princes.
All indications suggest that the French giants wants a big-name goalie next summer, as PSG did try to land Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak during the last window, and Alphonse, 24, doesn’t want his path to the senior national team blocked, hence his willingness to move to the EPL.
Alongside the Magpies, Crystal Palace are also keeping tabs on the PSG youth product, who’s very much likely to be loaned out – for the 4th time – at first should he choose to leave.
Newcastle tried to bring in a goalie upon returning to the topflight, and reportedly had Napoli’s Pepe Reina and Udinese’s Orestis Karnezis as targets.
In Alphonse, who has cut his teeth with Ligue 2 sides and has since established himself in goal at PSG, Newcastle would be landing a key player to their ranks if a move for him goes through.
Including winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup, the 2014 Ligue 2 Goalkeeper of the Year has a Ligue 1 title, Coupe de la Ligue, Coupe de France and Trophée des Champions cups to his name, and has the quality to improve any team at the back.
