West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has revealed that William Carvalho was not the only player that he hoped his club would sign before the end of the transfer window.
The Euro 2016 winner Carvalho was reportedly a priority target of the Hammers this summer and some observers pointed out that he was on the verge of joining the East London club.
However in the end, a deal did not go ahead and animosity has been created between West Ham and Sporting Lisbon. The Hammers claim that they had a bid rejected for the player while Sporting Lisbon have said that this is a lie and that no bid was received.
Bilic has now revealed that Carvalho was not the only signing that he thought would be made as he had been hoping to sign Andre Gomes as well.
He said, “I wanted Carvalho. We all did. We are a bit thin and I took that risk deliberately. It wasn’t only Carvalho, it was also Andre Gomes, who also looked done.”
