As per The Scottish Sun, Rangers are weighing up a January approach for Aberdeen midfielder and summer target Kenny McLean.
The Scotland international has refused to extend his contract at Pittodrie beyond the end of the current season, and the Gers are hoping to be able to land him in the winter transfer window.
Should they fail to, a pre-contract agreement could be sealed ahead of a free summer switch, with McLean keen on seeing out his deal in order to facilitate a move to Ibrox, after former teammate Ryan Jack did so earlier this year.
Considering the exceptional talent of the 25-year-old midfielder, former Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood has urged the club to do everything in order to convince McLean into signing a new contract and fend off interest from Rangers.
The former St. Mirren man would without a doubt add an extra layer of creativity to manager Pedro Caixinha midfield should a move for him get sealed.
While 3 centre-midfielders have been recruited since the arrival of the Portuguese boss, McLean offers an excellent range of passing, having been widely hailed as been capable of “opening a tin of beans” and always looking for a ‘slide-rule’ pass with his vision.
It definitely would be an interesting time in January with Rangers keen on their man while Aberdeen attempt to hold on to one of their best and most-prized assets.
