Rangers tried to no avail to land Motherwell striker Louis Moult, 25, during the last summer transfer window, but still nurse plans to return for the signature of English forward when the market reopens in January.
However, while the Ibrox outfit are bound to have competition from the likes of Blackburn, Brentford, Hibernian and Millwall for Moult’s services, they also have another hurdle to scale, as Well aren’t giving up in their attempts to have him extend his contract beyond next summer.
Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson isn’t particularly keen on letting a striker who has scored 39 goals in his last 74 Scottish Premiership games go.
He told reporters at the weekend after Moult brought his tally to 5 strikes in as many league clashes this term: “Anybody that scores that amount of goals, we don’t want to leave the football club.
“I haven’t given up hope of keeping Louis at the club, not by any stretch of the imagination, and will continue speaking to him.”
Rangers brought in 11 players during the summer, but despite having a decent attacking lineup that has bagged 11 league goals – the 2nd highest – thus far, boss Pedro Caixinha still very much desires to add more firepower in the mould of the Motherwell prolific hitman.
However, with the Fir Park outfit vowing to continue persuading Moult into signing a new deal, Rangers are at the risk of missing out on their man in the end.
