Leeds United recruited 15 players over the summer, as new manager Thomas Christiansen almost completely overhauled the squad he met at Elland Road.
That appears to be paying off as the Whites have started the new Championship season on a bright note, with 4 wins and 2 draws ensuring they are yet to lose a game thus far.
The club have eyes firmly on returning the Premier League after more than decade away, and are already preparing for the winter transfer window in order to further bolster their squad.
According to The Sun, Leeds are keen on bringing Gamba Osaka midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi to Elland Road come January, and have agreed to pay £700,000 for the 21-year-old Japanese international.
While Ideguchi’s buyout clause doesn’t appear to be much money, that the club are willing to spend such amount on a player with no European experience speaks volume.
The Whites aren’t only keen to take a gamble on signing him, they are also willing to undergo the stress they would encounter in bringing him to England, as the J. League Division 1-winning midfielder isn’t yet qualified to obtain a work permit.
Ideguchi, who has scored thrice and assisted a further nine in 29 appearances across all competitions, has only won three caps for Japan, meaning he has not yet played enough games to meet the criteria to receive a work permit.
However, it appears Leeds are willing to do all it takes to overcome those hurdles, and it can only be hoped the Japanese star help the team out in the end should a move go through.
